Smart Cart Optimization Engine

This page demonstrates vendor offer comparison, partial stock handling, quantity splitting, weight-based shipping, free-shipping threshold logic, and the Smart Cart branch-and-bound algorithm on a realistic 3-product / 4-vendor scenario. All data is synthetic.

01 · Cart & Vendor Availability

Partial stock and missing stock highlighted
Cart: Organic Olive Oil 500ml ×2 (0.9 kg each), Artisan Coffee Blend 250g ×1 (0.3 kg each), Natural Honey 400g ×3 (0.5 kg each)  ·  Total cart weight: 3.6 kg
Vendor Organic Olive Oil... (need 2) Artisan Coffee... (need 1) Natural Honey 400g (need 3) Can Fulfill All?
BioForza Italia ⚠ €18.00 · only 1 of 2 ✓ €13.00 · 5 in stock ✗ No stock No — partial
NaturShop Milano ✓ €17.00 · 5 in stock ✗ No stock ✓ €9.00 · 3 in stock No — partial
VerdeCasa Roma ✗ No stock ✓ €12.00 · 5 in stock ✓ €8.50 · 10 in stock No — partial
AlphaOrganic ✓ €21.00 · 10 in stock ✓ €14.00 · 10 in stock ✓ €10.00 · 10 in stock Yes
Key insight: Only AlphaOrganic can fulfill the entire cart alone — but at a higher price. BioForza has only 1 unit of Olive Oil (need 2) — it is a partial vendor and still included in the algorithm's evaluation. The algorithm considers all combinations, including splits.

02 · Quantity Splitting

When no single vendor has enough stock
Scenario: Need 2 units of Organic Olive Oil 500ml. BioForza has stock = 1 (partial). Algorithm evaluates splitting across BioForza + NaturShop.
Split Allocation: Organic Olive Oil 500ml Total product cost: €35.00
Vendor Stock Available Units Allocated Unit Price Line Total
BioForza Italia Partial (1 units) ×1 €18.00 €18.00
NaturShop Milano 5 units ×1 €17.00 €17.00
BioForza has stock = 1 (partial). Algorithm allocates 1 unit from BioForza + 1 from NaturShop = €35.00 product cost, vs. NaturShop alone = €34.00. In this case single-vendor NaturShop wins — but partial stock is always considered.

03 · Weight-Based Shipping Brackets

Per-vendor brackets + free-shipping thresholds
Vendor 0 – 2 kg 2 – 5 kg Free Shipping Over
BioForza Italia €5.00 €7.00 €50.00 subtotal
NaturShop Milano €5.50 €8.00 €55.00 subtotal ← Smart Cart exploits this
VerdeCasa Roma Always Free — any weight, any subtotal —
AlphaOrganic €4.00 (up to 5 kg) €45.00 subtotal
Smart Cart uses this: By routing both Olive Oil (A) and Honey (C) to NaturShop, the subtotal reaches €61.00 ≥ €55.00 → shipping becomes €0.00. Evaluated per vendor sub-order, not on cart total.

04 · Cost Comparison

Single vendor vs. naive vs. Smart Cart optimal
Single Vendor
€86.00
AlphaOrganic
Naive (Cheapest Per Item)
€77.00
No shipping synergy
Smart Cart Optimal
€73.00
Save €13 vs. single vendor
Option 1 — Single Vendor: AlphaOrganic Total: €86.00
AlphaOrganic
Organic Olive Oil 500ml ×2 @ €21.00€42.00
Artisan Coffee Blend 250g ×1 @ €14.00€14.00
Natural Honey 400g ×3 @ €10.00€30.00
Shipping (3.60 kg) — Free (threshold met)€0.00
Vendor Total€86.00
Option 2 — Naive: Cheapest Per Item (No Shipping Synergy) Total: €77.00
NaturShop Milano
Organic Olive Oil 500ml ×2 @ €17.00€34.00
Shipping (1.80 kg) — €5.50 · Free over €55.00€5.50
Vendor Total€39.50
VerdeCasa Roma
Artisan Coffee Blend 250g ×1 @ €12.00€12.00
Natural Honey 400g ×3 @ €8.50€25.50
Shipping (1.80 kg) — Always Free€0.00
Vendor Total€37.50
Naive assigns A to NaturShop alone (€34 subtotal, 1.80 kg → €5.50 shipping). Does not consider that adding C to the same vendor would trigger free shipping and reduce total cost.
✓ Option 3 — Smart Cart: Optimal Allocation Total: €73.00 · Save €4 vs. naive · Save €13 vs. single
NaturShop Milano
Organic Olive Oil 500ml ×2 @ €17.00€34.00
Natural Honey 400g ×3 @ €9.00€27.00
Shipping (3.30 kg) — Free (threshold met) €0.00
✓ Subtotal €61.00 ≥ €55.00 free-shipping threshold → shipping waived
Vendor Total€61.00
VerdeCasa Roma
Artisan Coffee Blend 250g ×1 @ €12.00€12.00
Shipping (0.30 kg) — Always Free €0.00
Vendor Total€12.00
Smart Cart routes A+C to NaturShop together, pushing the sub-order subtotal to €61.00 — above the €55.00 free-shipping threshold. Shipping becomes €0.00. This synergy is invisible to a naive per-item approach but the branch-and-bound algorithm finds it by evaluating all allocation combinations.
This is a demonstration module. All vendor names, prices, stock levels and shipping rates are synthetic. The production platform uses the same algorithm architecture applied to your real vendor data, with full DB-level stock locking and cold-cache performance targets as defined in the Statement of Work v5.0.
